Seismic Exploration Methods - download pdf or read online

This booklet describes the seismic tools utilized in geophys ical exploration for oil and fuel in a finished, non rigorous, mathematical demeanour. i've got used it and its predecessors as a guide for brief classes in seismic tools, and it's been widely revised repeatedly to incorporate the newest advances in our actually comment capable technological know-how.

In these cases, the rock load was estimated using the empirical approximation by Terzaghi. However, the lining load increment due to the application of the GCT3 loads, was calculated directly from UDEC for all cases. Typically the lower bound solution is expected to yield loading results which are lower than the upper bound solution. The first random joint model analysis of this location however, showed a potential instability mechanism that can develop in between the upper and lower level structures, probably developed due to the limited separation of 15 ft.

Kinematic stability analyses were performed with the limit equilibrium software UNWEDGE by Rocscience Inc For numerical modeling and final design purposes the Universal Distinct Element Code (UDEC) by Itasca was used. For a few selected locations with cross connections between the lower level caverns, three dimensional analyses using the code 3DEC by Itasca, were performed to assess the adequacy of the design. Due to the excavation sequence, which has two 22 ft diameter TBMs boring the running tunnels through the future cavern locations, some initial rock reinforcement is installed from the TBMs.

Electronic edition published 2011. East Side Access Manhattan 29 GEOTECHNICAL ANALYSES General A comprehensive series of geotechnical studies were performed for the design of the lower level GCT4 crossover and wye caverns. Analyses consisted of kinematic stability calculations, to estimate maximum sizes of kinetically feasible wedges and preliminary rock reinforcement requirements, and numerical modeling to assess the redistribution of the stress regime, excavation induced displacements and loading conditions for design of the final lining of the lower level structures.
